GAITHERSBURG, MD, October 7, 2008 – Fusion UV Systems, Inc. is pleased to announce its part in helping to increase awareness and funding research of breast cancer. Team 'Fusion Supports the Cure' participated in the Breast Cancer 3-Day walk held October 3-5 in Washington, DC. The team exceeded their original goal, raising over $12,000 to benefit the Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund.
Individual team members who walked 60 miles over three days included Julie Sharpe, Michael Morris and Min Jekal. In addition, Sarah Mather and Marieme Kone worked from 4:00am to 9:00pm each day as support crew for the walkers. Many Fusion UV employees, business partners and friends participated in fundraising events and made donations to help the team reach its goal, with Fusion UV providing matching contributions to employee donations.
Julie Sharpe, the team captain and sister of two breast cancer survivors commented, “Awesome, inspiring, tiring, uplifting and joyous are just some of the words to describe participating in the 3,200 walker strong event. You sure need to be determined to complete the arduous route which took us around Northern Virginia and into Washington, DC on the final day. The event culminated in an emotional closing ceremony which paid tribute to the walkers, crew and breast cancer survivors who took part.”
